The following postings were from Yahoo Answers:
The question was:
What do you prefer: e-card from the internet or real postcard?
I'm interested in 2 points of view:
- when you get a postcard (home) or an e-card to your computer
(which is more romantic, better surprise...)
- when you send greetings (faster, cheaper...)
Every opinion is welcome :-)
The answers were:
- Um . . . obviously through the mail is more romatinc and definantly now adays a big surprise. How can YOU NOT KNOW THAT you a hole.
- A real postcard really is romantic and feels more authentic than an e-mail. It shows that you really went out of your way to get one, instead of just sitting in front of your computer, type, then click 'send'. However, an E-mail is faster and cheaper.
- No offense to others here, but I appreciate snail mail/ real postcards than e-mails.
- i love e-cards you can save them on your computer , they are less expensive , saves our forest takes less space to save and they are fun
- Real Postcards are becoming a Lost Art. It is definitely more romantic, more personal, much more thoughtful and collectible. Everyone is in such a hurry today that they forget to take the time to "write" a real note to a friend or lover, take time to send a child a birthday card or write a thank you note for a gift received! With a postcard, vs a card in an envelope, the recipient knows instantly that they have a special note in their mailbox - because they don't have to study the envelope to discover if it is junk mail. I like to make my own custom postcards (see http://www.galleriaventures.com/postcard... ) for all occasions in my life. I use a favorite photo and add some text to the front and then write my personal note on the back. Just this week, I mailed out cards to all my family with a change of address - reminding them to keep in touch too.
- The e-card is nice and usually timely... but there is something about a postcard. The stamp, the time print, and the handwriting. It shows that someone took a lot of extra time to ensure you were included. e-cards are impersonal, and you don't get the "feel" of the person who sent it; whereas a postcard shows the wear of travel - and you don't have to "print it out" if you want to keep it for viewing once your not sitting in front of a computer. Also, the postcard can be handed off to be looked at by others, and put inside a scrapbook... the e-card can always be printed... but it just isn't quite the same.
From the results of these postings I believe that real postcards are still considered to have more romantic value than e-Cards. Consider this when thinking about sending someone special a card.
Here is an example of a love note postcard which was sent as a real printed postcard and can therefore be an item to look at and let the emotions flow without having to use a computer:
